Can Gio – Saigon “There are dreams on the other side of the river” Can Gio is the only coastal district of HCMC. Only a river away but the line between affluence and poverty has never been drawn so clearly. On this side of the river, those poor lives find their daily joy by being satisfied with what they have, gathering to share scanty bowls of rice. Visiting different households each month, we witness contrasting misfortunes – there are times when the ground turns muddy, times when the soil is barren due to the lack of rain, times, but generally people here have to face shortage of clean water much of the time. By the time we leave, our heart ached for their tribulations. Knowing that we can’t turn around their utmost difficulty shortly, we hope and believe that by offering spiritual support and encouragement, we can help to partly ease the pain of feeling lost in life. Therefore, from 2017 until now, every month we go to each house and try to share their sufferings with donations for their food expenditure and encouragement to overcome adversity.
"I learned to GIVE not because I have many but because I know exactly how it feels to have NOTHING." - Teresa Calcutta
